Ushering at St. Eugene

Mission

To assist the priest by performing necessary routine duties for the orderly conduct of Mass and to provide courteous and friendly assistance to the parishioners at Mass.

Routine Duties

  1. Passing out the weekly bulletins
  2. Seating parishioners as needed
  3. Taking up the collection
  4. Guiding parishioners to Communion
  5. Insuring the Sanctuary is prepared for Mass
  6. Assisting parishioners as needed.

Schedule and attire

Ushers are required to arrive at church twenty (20) minutes before Mass and the after-Mass duties require about ten (10) minutes of time.

Ushers are usually scheduled to usher about every five weeks. Phone lists of ushers are provided to all ushers so they can more easily find a replacement when scheduled to usher but are unable to do so.

Ushers wear a coat and tie for the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Masses except during the hot summer months when a collared shirt is acceptable. Ushers at the 5:00 p.m. Mass may wear a collared shirt year-round. Women ushers wear comparable attire.

Great Opportunities

Ushering at St. Eugene provides the volunteer not only with a sense of helping but also provides and excellent opportunity to meet and become acquainted with the clergy, other ushers, many parishioners and the church staff.

To volunteer, contact the church office, any usher at Mass or call Jan Latta, 728-0008. Your volunteering will be greatly appreciated!
