*The dishonest manager in today's parable knew how to manipulate money to his own advantage. But the Gospel warns that no one can serve both God and money. Which do I serve? Is my stewardship such that anyone can tell?*

Dear Friends in Christ,
The 8th Annual Festival of the Americas---with an International Flair-- was a big success last Sunday. I have been here for the last 3 festivals, and each year the festival gets better and better and more people come to enjoy the day. As usual, the food was delicious and the entertainment diverse and delightful. The Irish dancers, Mexican Folklorico dancers, Mediterranean dancers, and Scottish dancer all wowed the crowd. Our own Knights of Columbus Choir opened the festival with some rousing songs, little Ashley Mandanos stole the show with her big, booming beautiful voice, and Sergio Gil’s songs took me back to the plaza in front of the Cathedral in Guadalajara where the marachis serenade the crowds with their deep, baritone voices. Thanks to Art Valdez who did such a fine job as the festival chairman and to the Hispanic Council who helped organize this grand event: Yolanda Castillo de Garcia (president), Pablo Ramos (vice-president), Jesus Elizondo (treasurer), Maribel Landa (secretary), and Roberto Zarate (historian). Many thanks to those who made the food and manned the food and drink booths and all who helped set-up and clean-up. One snapshot from last Sunday still burns brightly in my memory. The young Irish dancers took a break from their energetic performance to teach several Hispanic girls how to do the high-stepping Irish dance numbers. Two worlds, two cultures, were united by their love of music and dancing. Sr. Ana Eva, who began this festival in 1996 with the goal of building solidarity among the many different cultures in our parish, must have been smiling down from heaven to see that little dance instruction. The theme of the Festival was very appropriate to the day: "One Bread, One Body, One Lord of All."
Don’t forget about the parish wide meeting this Monday night at 7 p.m. when the 5-year plan will be presented. Also, RENEW sign-up continues after all Masses this weekend, plus there is Open House for the Meerschaert Youth Room after all Masses as well. The new youth room is located next to far N.W. entrance to our parish facilities and has been decorated an rearranged nicely for youth activities.
Next Sunday at 10 a.m. Mass there will be a special ritual at Mass for our Confirmation I students who are beginning a 2-year journey of study and reflection in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. After 10 a.m. Mass next Sunday will be the blessing of our nursery---come see the new nursery and visit with the director of our nursery, Lori Kelley. Also, next Sunday at 4 p.m. will be a workshop for all current lectors and those interested in this ministry, and then at 6:30 p.m. a workshop for greeters and those interested in being greeters.
Below are the totals from the St. Gregory University Scholarship collection, as well as the total collected for hurricane assistance last weekend and the income from the Festival of the Americas. Thanks to all of you who continue to so generously support the many works of our parish and the wider Church.
In the peace of Christ,
Rev. Joseph A. Jacobi
