Dear Friends in the Christ,
Next weekend Fr. John Bosco will preach at all the Masses and talk about the Catholic CHESS (Children’s Home, Education and Social Support) project that he established in 2000. Fr. John Bosco came to our parish last summer to talk about the orphaned and underprivileged children that he cares for through CHESS. The Home, named Holy Family Home, is located in Uromi, Nigeria, supporting 51 children. Last summer our parish responded with a generous offering in support of this outreach, and some of our parishioners are sponsoring these children with regular monthly donations. Also, in the new school year, the collection that is taken up at every school Mass will be donated to Catholic CHESS. Plus, our school children will be connecting with these children in Nigeria in various ways, such as through letters and cards.
In conjunction with Fr. John Bosco’s visit, next Sunday night at 7 p.m. in our church there will be a benefit concert for the Catholic CHESS project given by soprano Robin Chavez, who has performed in concerts and operas throughout the U.S. and Europe. There is no charge for the concert, though donations will be accepted. See the bulletin insert for more information.
On Friday evening, July 23rd, from 7-9 p.m., and Saturday morning, July 24th, from 9 a.m. – 12 noon, Fr. Tony Taylor will be directing a retreat here in our church. Fr. Taylor, who has a doctorate in Sacred Scripture, will be talking about the Biblical basis for Stewardship. There will be time for communal prayer, individual prayer, and fellowship. This retreat is a good opportunity to strengthen and deepen one’s relationship with the Lord. Anyone is welcome to attend---no RSVP is necessary. However, if you need childcare, please call the parish office.
There will be a reception in the gym after the 10 a.m. Mass this Sunday to honor Leon Sanderson for his faithful service as our parish organist. Please come by and thank Leon for sharing his musical talents with our parish these past 10 years.
I will be leaving this Sunday afternoon, July 11th, to take a vacation, returning on Friday night, July 23rd. Fr. Ross will also be gone this week, and will return Friday night. Daily Mass will be offered this week by one of the priests from the Apostles of Jesus religious community. In case of an emergency that requires the attention of a priest, contact Carol Ann Combs at the parish office.
With all the rain we have received the past month, it is not surprising that some leaks have sprung---over the cry room and women’s restroom next to the cry room, and a couple of leaks in the roof on the west side of our parish facility over Ms. Willett’s kindergarten room and Mrs. Patterson’s P.E. office. These roof repairs will cost $710.
Thanks to Tim O’Donnell who painted the curbs in the front of the church to mark the no parking (fire zones). Thanks, too, to our Knights of Columbus Council for donating the money for the paint.
In the peace of Christ,
Fr. Joseph A. Jacobi

TO ALL OUR CATHOLIC CHURCHES....
WE NEED YOUR HELP:
We received a letter from Sister's Sponsa Beltran's Sister from Liberia, Africa.
A fire broke out at the Rehab Center. The entire dormitory and the adjoining storage area burned down due to an electrical fire. Thanks be to God every child and Sister were saved.
They have lost everything that was housed within the buildings including all clothing, beds, linens, food, available cash, wheelchairs, braces and tabernacle which Sister stored in her room so that the children could have perpetual adoration while repairs were made to the chapel, along with anything else you can think of. They have shared with so many thousands that we cannot believe that God will abandon them now. They are currently residing on the floor in the chapel and school building and will live out of these until we can get emergency aid to them. Please pray for them and us that we are able to find help for them and quickly. Right now money for food and daily necessities is most imperative.
All fire donations should be made out to Sr. Sponsa Beltran OSF and mailed to me as soon as possible.
As devastating as this situation is at this present time, to everyone who has followed Sister and the children's story, we can never forget for a moment that they all survived thanks to the Power of Prayer. Let us all give thanks this weekend that they are still with us when conditions tell us that most should never have lived for the damage was total. As soon as donations come in, they will be wired immediately to Sister Sponsa to meet emergency needs. NO DONATION IS TOO LITTLE !!! Please mail donations to Pearl Sullens, 1941 N.W. 17th, Oklahoma City, OK 73106 or call 524-3641, if you have any questions.
*** The good Samaritan was also a good steward, giving his time and his treasure to meet his neighbor's need. At the end of this familiar story, Jesus urges his hearers - and us - to go and do the same! ***
