"The harvest is rich," Jesus tells the seventy-two in today's Gospel, "but the workers are few". The situation is the same today. How can I help with God's harvest? Am I called into the field? Am I one who could provide food or shelter or wages to those who toil in the fields of the Lord?

Dear Friends in the Christ,
Last month six of our high school youth attended the Frasatti Leadership Conference at Christ the King Church. This conference was a two-day workshop for youth from around our Archdiocese to help them become even better leaders and to strengthen their faith. I went on the 2nd day to speak about priesthood, to hear their Confessions, and celebrate Mass with them. I was impressed by the depth of their faith, and that young people would take two days out of their summer vacation to attend such a gathering.
Next Saturday night youth from our parish will join youth from Christ the King parish on a bus trip to New Orleans to attend a Catholic Heart Work Camp. These work camps take place throughout the U.S. for Catholic youth to come together for one week and help people who live in impoverished neighborhoods by working on their homes and doing other good works. What a great way for our youth to help others and to meet other Catholic youth from around the country! Daily prayer experiences, social gatherings and time for reflection are all part of the Catholic Heart Work Camp experience. Last summer a few of our youth went to St. Louis, and now more of our youth will go to New Orleans.
The Catholic Heart Work Camp is a great experience for our youth. Earlier this year Fr. Tim Luschen at St. Monica (the parish just north of us in Edmond) and I were visiting about other service opportunities for our youth that would open their eyes to the needs of their neighbors right here in OKC. Youth from St. Monica have been going to Catholic Heart Work Camps for many years, and both Fr. Luschen and I agreed that these summer mission trips are invaluable, but we also wanted to have our youth do something for people closer to home. So, the youth of St. Monica’s, Sacred Heart (south OKC), and our youth will do a work camp over Labor Day weekend this year, helping out people who live in impoverished neighborhoods in south OKC. The details are still being worked out for this work camp on Labor Day weekend. Also, our Coordinator of Youth Ministry (CYM), LeAnn Bomhoff, and the CYM’s from Sacred Heart and St. Monica are planning other "mission" experiences here in OKC for the youth. These will be great opportunities for our youth to work side by side with Catholic youth from area parishes, to pray together and play together, and to give of their time and talent to help people in need.
Sometimes "older" people are critical of the youth of today. However, in my interaction with the young people in our parish and in other Catholic parishes, I have found they deeply desire to make a difference in their world and long to put their faith into action. In the peace of Christ,
Fr. Joseph A. Jacobi

I can never adequately express to you, my family of faith and home parish, the depth of gratitude I feel for the incredible gift of love and support which you have been to me during my journey to priesthood. I am truly your grateful son, brother and friend, and now by God's love and grace, your Father and servant in Christ. Your love for me and the Church has been in the spirit of true stewardship as you generously prayed, supported and encouraged me for over six years. Now, you send me to serve the greater Oklahoma Church.
I must thank Fr. Jacobi for his wisdom and friendship as well as being my spiritual advisor and mentor. I am grateful to my many friends and supporters at St. Eugene's, especially the Altar Society
and Guilds, and the Knights of Columbus for their faithful and generous support. Thanks also to those who made my first Mass of Thanksgiving such a memorable time of gratitude and joy, especially Liturgy Director Brent McWilliams, the K. of C. choir, servers and Honor Guards. And to the host of hostess, especially Anne Codding, Judi Wilkinson, Ellen Kiss and Polly Keenan.
My heart is larger because it holds an eternal place for my St. Eugene family. Thank you and may God bless you always.
In loving gratitude,
I am sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Rex Arnold
