Dear Friends in the Christ,
Deacon Rex Arnold will be ordained to the priesthood this Friday night at the Cathedral, the second parishioner in the 46 year history of our parish to be ordained as a priest for our Archdiocese. Fr. Rex Arnold will then celebrate his first Mass here on Saturday at 5 p.m. followed by a celebration in our parish hall/gym. After having celebrated Fr. Ross’ 50th anniversary earlier this month, we now have the opportunity to rejoice in the gift of a newly ordained priest. Please keep Rex in your prayers during this final week before he is ordained as a priest.
The festivities of Rex’s ordination and first Mass carry over into next Sunday afternoon with our Parish Festival. I will be in the dunk tank again this year, and I am trying to convince the school principal to sit in the dunk tank as well. Thanks to the members of the Parish Council who have organized our Parish Festival, which is meant to be a time for our parish to celebrate our Patron Saint (the Feast of Pope St. Eugene is on Wednesday, June 2nd.)
You will see below in the information on parish contributions that almost $2000 was given to the Friends of Bolivia Medical Mission in the special 2nd Collection from last weekend. This year’s medical mission team will leave on June 4th and return on June 13th. Please keep them in your prayers.
Ed and Jo Ann Lyle will renew their marriage vows at the 5 p.m. Mass this weekend in celebration of their 40th Anniversary. Congratulations Ed and Jo Ann!
Last Sunday afternoon the 8th Grade girls’ basketball team defeated the team made up of the moms/principal/and youth director. The 8th grade boys were defeated in overtime by their fathers, other school parents, and me. A fun time was had by all. Thanks to Jim Cowan for organizing this event and to all who helped, especially to Teresa Marianos and her family who worked the concession stand. (Teresa is the "Concession Coordinator" for our School Athletic Commission.) Jim has served as the President of our Athletic Commission for the past two years and has done an outstanding job overseeing the sporting programs for our school.
The Wednesday prayer events will continue throughout the summer (all-day adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Confessions, Anointing of the Sick, and Evening Prayer with Benediction) with a couple of changes. Confessions (12 noon to 1 p.m.) and Anointing of the Sick (3 p.m.) will be celebrated only on the first Wednesday of the month from June-August, instead of every Wednesday. Please call the parish office if you need to be anointed and cannot come to the chapel on the 1st Wednesday of the month.
This Memorial Day let us especially remember our fellow Americans killed in the ongoing war in Iraq. Let us honor them in our hearts and with our prayers. Let us also remember in our prayers as well the more than 10,000 Iraqi civilians who have died during this war. Let us pray for peace, for all war, as Pope John Paul II has repeatedly said, "is a defeat for humanity."
In the peace of Christ,
Fr. Joseph A. Jacobi

We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for the church.
If you own or manage a business and would like to find out more about how to advertise in our book, please call the church office, 751-7115. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize our Guide Book and Directory advertisers over a non-advertiser. The Guide Book and Directory contains the who, what, when, where, why and how of our church. It is provided at no cost to our church, including the mailing to each family, and is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise in it. We thank them for their continued support.LAVA LAVA ISLAND WHERE JESUS' LOVE FLOWS

IF YOU DIE WITHOUT A WILL...
a court will divide your property according to state law.
Prepare your will today, call Joseph H. Combs, CSA, Executive Director, The Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma, 721-4115 for ideas regarding a Christian will.
One Miracle of Pentecost was that, despite their diversity, each listener heard God's word in his or her own language. The meaning for stewardship is that, by sharing the gifts poured out on us by the Holy Spirit, we will be empowered to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters, whatever they may be.
