Dear Padre,
Are the laity subordinate to the priest?
Our priest said that if there was ever a dispute and it involved a priest and a layperson, that God takes the word of the priest over the layperson because the priest is the anointed one. I can’t believe this is true? Please respond.
Maria
Dear Maria,
When we are trying to decide and must choose between two people, we look for things that help us know which opinion or version of things we should accept. For example, does this person usually lie or tell the truth? Does this person usually make good judgments or bad ones? We look for help like this because we cannot absolutely know the right thing to do, so we have to do what seems best to us.
Fortunately, God in is no such position. God always knows the person’s heart. God always knows the truth. God always makes the right choice. God does not have to choose one person’s word over another, or choose the priest over the layperson. God knows.
The first anointing that anyone receives is the anointing of baptism. We all share this anointing which claims us for Christ. The anointing of ordination sets a man aside for a sacred purpose, but does not make him incapable of error. We follow the priest when he is teaching what the Church teaches. We owe the priest honor and respect because God chose him for a sacred purpose. God did not promise to always make him right.
Father Joseph Nolen, C.Ss.R.

When he discovered that Mary was with child, Joseph resolved to end their engagement with as little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and become instead the protector of the child Jesus and His mother Mary. God grant that I may be as open to the leading of the Holy Spirit!

YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST
October 2004 - October 2005
An Invitation to The Parish Family of St. Eugene
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
Is the traditional and beautiful ceremony in which the whole congregation receives a solemn blessing with The Blessed Sacrament lifted in benediction by the Priest.
This is the year to experience it again - to teach your children about it - and to experience the fullness of love and worship there is in this holy rite.
Father Jacobi and The Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament invite you to come for Evening Prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on one or more of the remaining Wednesdays of December:
December 22 & December 29,
6:00 p.m.
This is an earlier time than usual so that families can plan ahead to come together - on one or more of these early evenings and experience this holy blessing together.
"The Eucharist is a priceless treasure: by not only celebrating it but also by praying before it outside of Mass we are enabled to make contact with the very wellspring of grace."
Pope John Paul II

A special private telephone number, 405-720-9878 has been installed through the direction of the Archbishop, as a pastoral response to anyone who, as a child or minor, was sexually abused by a priest. The telephone calls will be answered by a trained counselor.
The purpose of the telephone line is twofold. First, it will give a voice to any victim, enabling them to report the allegations of abuse. Therefore, it may be the first step of investigation. Second, the telephone line will provide access to pastoral counseling. This may be the initial step to bring healing and comfort to the victim. The line is answered weekdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or at other hours by a confidential answering machine. Messages are retrieved and returned as soon as possible.
MARDI GRAS 2005: Effective January 1, 2005, reservations are open to the Parish for those wishing to attend the 13th Annual Mardi Gras Ball on January 29. The cost is $160 for a table of 8. For more information, contact Joe Nicholson, Reservation Coordinator, 330-5094.
