~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today's readings paint a somewhat frightening picture of the end of time. But the Gospel ends with the assurance to faithful stewards that those who persevere will be saved.
Dear Friends in Christ,
This Liturgical Year is quickly coming to an end. Next Sunday we celebrate the feast of Christ the King on the final Sunday of this “Year of Luke.” Then on November 28th we begin a new liturgical cycle with the First Sunday of Advent and the Gospel of Matthew as our guide throughout the coming year.
Christ the King Sunday is the time when new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are commissioned for a 3-year term of service, and those who are presently serving who would like to renew their commitment are re-commissioned for another 3 years.
Throughout the year there are envelopes for special collections in your envelope packet. Next Sunday throughout the U.S. is the special annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the program sponsored by the U.S. Catholic Bishops to help low-income people break the cycle of poverty. Since there are almost 35 million Americans living in poverty, the work of CCHD is more important than ever before. CCHD is committed to helping people change the conditions that keep them in the state of poverty by giving them a hand-up. CCHD envelopes can be placed in the collection basket at the regular collection time.
This weekend after Communion will be a short presentation on the budget for the present fiscal year as well as how our parish did financially the past fiscal year. The budget numbers for this year, the budget for last year, as well as the actual income and expenses for last year, can be found in an insert in this weekend’s bulletin. This will also be printed in this month’s issue of the Gospel Truth.
The repair and renovation of the gathering area, cry room, women’s bathroom, and the office for the parish nurse, is finally finished. As you may recall, this work took place because of a fire in this area during the summertime. The total cost is $80,000 and the insurance will pay $59,500. The remaining $20,500 includes a $2500 deductible and then $18,000 of extra work which included installing the 3 skylights and the electrical work for the new lights on either side of the gathering area. Because of the work being done to repair the fire damage, this additional renovation was less expensive than if we had started from scratch. Removing the hanging lights that were on either side of the gathering area has opened this space up to make it appear bigger, and the natural light from the skylights during the day has transformed a dark space into a more welcoming entrance to the church. Plus, as part of the insurance repair, the copper in the gathering area has received a new shine.
Last week we prayed for the first time at Mass the “Prayer for the Building of a New Church.” This prayer is located on the inside back cover of your hymnal. It will be prayed every Sunday at the conclusion of the Prayers of the Faithful. Registered parishioners will soon receive by mail a prayer card with this prayer so that it can be prayed daily. In the peace of Christ,
Rev. Joseph A. Jacobi
2. Refugee and Resettlement at Catholic Charities is in urgent need of used bedding and linens, furniture, and every kind of household item. Hue Green, director of the program, stated. If you have items to donate, need more detailed information, or know of someone who could assist, please contact the Refugee Office, 523-3002.
A special private telephone number, 405-720-9878 has been installed through the direction of the Archbishop, as a pastoral response to anyone who, as a child or minor, was sexually abused by a priest. The telephone calls will be answered by a trained counselor.
The purpose of the telephone line is twofold. First, it will give a voice to any victim, enabling them to report the allegations of abuse. Therefore, it may be the first step of investigation. Second, the telephone line will provide access to pastoral counseling. This may be the initial step to bring healing and comfort to the victim. The line is answered weekdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or at other hours by a confidential answering machine. Messages are retrieved and returned as soon as possible.
Dear Fr. Jacobi and St. Eugene,
Although I have unpacked my suitcase from the Italy pilgrimage, I will be unpacking the many wonderful memories for years to come. I will be forever grateful to Fr. Jacobi and my home parish for such a lasting and memorable ordination present, one that took 24 friends, new and old, 12 days in Italy to help me unwrap.
I was impressed by many places and things, the beautiful churches, incredible art, great pasta, good wine and of course the daily trip to the gelato shop (Italian ice cream). The one thing that most impressed me, however, was how truly universal God's Church really is, no matter what language we speak or where we live, we are indeed one people in Christ.
Thank you Fr. Jacobi for your continued prayers and support and modeling for me a priestly vocation that is happy and holy. Thank you St. Eugene's for your many prayers and loving support during my years of seminary formation. You will always be my home family of faith and I will forever be your grateful son in Christ.
I remain sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Rex Arnold
The eucharistic bread giving us the presence of Christ is a profound mystery, a gift beyond all hoping and totally unmerited.
After the multiplication of bread, Jesus said: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven." ...not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever (John 6:51,58)
TRIGESIMO TERCER DOMINGO EN TIEMPO ORDINARIO
Las lecturas de hoy, dan una imagen de temor al fin del mundo. Pero el Evangelio termina asegurando a los administradores fieles que la perseverancia nos salvará.
"En los últimos 30 años, nosotros los católicos y muchos de otras creencias y no creyentes, hemos sentido el deber de alzar la voz profética para recordar a la sociedad que "los más pequeñitos" de nuestros hermanos y hermanas incluye a aquellos a quienes se les ha negado el primero y más fundamental derecho a la concepción. Desde su comienzo hasta su muerte natural, un ser recibe drechos únicos del mismo Dios. Al igual que con los pobres, inmigrantes, enfermos o prisioneros, no tener voz no significa que los no nacidos no tienen un lugar entre nosotros o el derecho a ser defendidos. Tenemos la obligación de defender ese derecho."
"Que mi alma alabe al Señor y proclame todas sus maravillas" salmo 9:2
