PLEASE PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOUL OF

JOHN PATRICK DOWNEY

Dear Friends in Christ,

The Rite of Acceptance will take place at the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass and 10 a.m. Sunday Mass this weekend. Those who have been inquiring about the Catholic Faith reach a milestone with this Rite as they officially become catechumens (those seeking baptism at the Easter Vigil) or candidates (those already baptized into another Christian faith who are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church). Please keep these newest catechumens and candidates in your prayers as they begin a new stage in their journey of faith.

The 2nd grade students in our parish school and religious education program will be making their 1st Confession either on Saturday, Nov. 6th, or Saturday, Nov. 20th. It is both an exciting and nervous time for these young children as they take a big step in their preparation for First Holy Communion.

An exciting event will take place at the Cox Center in downtown OKC from Nov. 19-21. Our Archdiocesan Youth Office is hosting the Region X Youth Conference, as over 2500 Catholic youth from Texas, Arkansas, and across Oklahoma will descend upon OKC to celebrate their Catholic faith. 800 participants are from our Archdiocese.

November is a time when we remember the faithfully departed in a special way. One of the ways we Catholics remember and pray for our beloved deceased is by having a Mass offered for them. Previously if you wanted to have a Mass said for a loved one you had to schedule that for several months in the future. As of this month, we are caught up on Mass intentions, so dates are readily available for a Mass to be offered. Donations of $10 per Mass intention are requested.

At the end of each Mass next weekend I will be giving a brief report on the financial situation of our parish, hitting the high points of the previous fiscal year (July 1, 2003 – June 30, 2004) and talking about this year’s budget. A summary of our financial status will also be included in the November issue of the Gospel Truth.

With a physical plant as large as ours, there is always something needing to be repaired or replaced. Within the past several weeks, the hot water heater in our largest maintenance room had to be replaced and brought up to code with a closet built around it so that area could still be used for storage ($1535), a new commode was installed in a school restroom ($671), and the carpet was stretched in the church sanctuary to repair a large, bulky ridge ($200).

Last Tuesday evening, November 2nd, firemen and policemen responded to a fire alarm that turned out to be a false alarm. The furnaces were turned on that Tuesday, and one furnace had a fan burn out plus spewed out a lot of dust which looked like and smelled like a fire.

In the peace of Christ,

Rev. Joseph A. Jacobi

In June 2004, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops authorized another audit to ensure that all dioceses are putting into place the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The auditors have finished their audit of our Archdiocese. A report will be issued in about two weeks and will be made public at that time; however, the auditors stated that they were very impressed with the commitment of our people in implementing the program: principals, teachers, DREs, youth ministry and Parish Facilitators, parents, employees and volunteers. I want to express my special thanks to all responsible for implementing the "Safe Environment Program" in this parish. We are committed to the protection of our young people and, even more, to helping them to grow in the love of God and neighbor. Please accept my gratitude for all your good works and blessings on each of you.

Most Reverend Eusebius J. Beltran

Archbishop of Oklahoma City
