Both the first reading and today's Psalm say clearly that the Lord hears the cry of the poor. Have I been given the gifts - of time or money or abilities - to be the means by which God answers their need?
Please note that the St. Vincent de Paul baskets have been replaced with a collection box at the back of the Church. For safety reasons, please do not leave your cash gifts on the ledges by the bulletins, but place the gift in the box. Thanks to the Hispanic Council for providing this box for us.

Dear Friends in Christ,
As creation around us starts to enter into the death of late Fall and Winter, the Church turns our focus in the upcoming days of November toward the last things. Thus, during November we remember the faithful departed in a special way, both those whom the Church has declared without a doubt are in heaven (the saints) and all our beloved dead as well. So, the Feast of All Saints and All Souls start off the month of November. You will find in the gathering area a book in which you can write the names of your beloved dead so that they can be prayed for in a special way during the month of November. All Saints Day (Nov. 1st) is a holy day of obligation but the obligation does not apply this year because it falls on a Monday. However, it is still a holy day and there will be several Masses offered to celebrate the triumphant church of the resurrection. On All Souls Day, there will be an early morning Mass and an evening Mass, and at the evening Mass there will be a special remembrance of those who have died in our parish during the last year. Also, for those who make a donation using your All Souls envelope, please be sure to print the name of your beloved departed because these names will be published in our bulletin during November.
At the 5 p.m. Mass on next Saturday night, October 30th, Allen Okvist and Samantha Burnett will exchange wedding vows and enter into the Sacrament of Matrimony. At the 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, October 31st, students in their 2nd year of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation will formally sign off on their commitment to enter the final phase of preparation for this Sacrament which will be celebrated with Archbishop Beltran in our parish on April 22, 2005.
Women now hold nearly half of all U.S. diocesan administrative and professional positions according to a survey report released in June by the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Women in Society and in the Church. One of those women is our own Tish Eason, who earlier this year was named Chancellor for our Archdiocese. Congratulations, Tish!
There will be a change to our usual schedule of Wednesday prayer events over the next two Wednesdays. On Wednesday, October, 17th and Wednesday, November 3rd, there will be no Confessions at 12 noon nor Anointing of the Sick in the chapel at 3 p.m. Also, hopefully by the end of this week, the repairs and renovation in the gathering area will be completed.
In the peace of Christ,
Fr. Jacobi

Catholic Charities Seeks Sponsors to Help Families for Christmas

Catholic Charities is looking for sponsors to help in this year's effort to provide Christmas gifts for needy families.
Those interested in sponsoring one or more families are asked to contact Catholic Charities' Parish Social Ministry Office, 523-3009, by November 1. Last year, Catholic Charities assisted over 300 families for Christmas. The group is encouraging individuals, civic clubs, church groups and other organizations to adopt a family this Christmas. Every effort will be made to give the sponsors the adopted family gift request list before Thanksgiving. Recipient families to be adopted for Christmas have already been referred and selected from churches and agencies.A special private telephone number, 405-720-9878 has been installed through the direction of the Archbishop, as a pastoral response to anyone who, as a child or minor, was sexually abused by a priest. The telephone calls will be answered by a trained counselor.
The purpose of the telephone line is twofold. First, it will give a voice to any victim, enabling them to report the allegations of abuse. Therefore, it may be the first step of investigation. Second, the telephone line will provide access to pastoral counseling. This may be the initial step to bring healing and comfort to the victim. The line is answered weekdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or at other hours by a confidential answering machine. Messages are retrieved and returned as soon as possible.
