PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SICK at home or in the hospital, especially: Manuel Moran, Tom Fox, John Steltenkamp, John Chyz, Amelia Torres, Pat Reynolds, Leann Bay Carver, Alan Giroux, Johnnie Cravotto, Bob Gilmore, Jan McLemore, Sally Curry, Betty Muller, Keith Anneler, Michael Chronister, Donna Bay, Olga Vela, Irene Alsobrook, Edna Gunter, Bernadette Cunningham, Tom Donnelly, Ewart Vaughn, Erick Do, Bill Ray, Judy Fairless, Glo Fortune, Joyce Elcyzyn, Robert Mabe, Beverly Reeve, Randy Conner and Betty Modeland.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Many of our parishioners generously support not only the good works of our parish, but also the good works of the Church around the world. On the weekend of July 17-18th, Fr. John Bosco’s appeal on behalf of the orphaned children he assists at Holy Family Home in Nigeria resulted in $3800 being collected. An additional $1700 in donations were given for this cause at the benefit concert by Robin Chavez on Sunday evening, July 18th. Thanks to Sue Neuberger and all who helped her organize this benefit concert. Also, 30 separate individuals/families agreed to sponsor children at Holy Family Home. On behalf of Fr. JohnBosco and the children he serves, thank you for your generous response.

Our choir will host a concert on the afternoon of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary (Sunday afternoon, August 15th). Brent McWilliams, our Director of Music and Liturgy, and the choir members have been hard at work putting together a fine program for your enjoyment. Mark your calendar now---you will not want to miss this event. See the enclosed flyer in this week’s bulletin for more information.

A new committee is being formed to welcome new parishioners to our parish. Duane Hogsett is chairing the "Welcoming Committee" with the help of Corrina Daniel, who is bilingual and will be a great aid in welcoming our new parishioners who are Spanish-speaking. Our Protestant brothers and sisters do a much better job than we Catholics in welcoming new members. We Catholics tend to forget that one of the important Christian virtues is hospitality, and that one of the works of mercies is welcoming the stranger. If you would like to help with this ministry, you will find more information elsewhere in this bulletin.

The first day of classes at our parish school is August 18th, less than three weeks away. Providing a quality Catholic education for our children is one of the ministries of our parish. Archbishop Beltran has been very supportive of Catholic education, and the past several years he has set aside funds from the Annual Archdiocesan Appeal to support the ministry of Catholic schools in our Archdiocese. The first week of July our parish school received a check in the amount of $24,701 from the Archdiocese representing our portion of the current ADF Plus program. The total amount divided among Catholic schools in our Archdiocese this year totals one-half million dollars. This is just one of the important causes that your donations to the annual ADF appeal supports.

On August 11-13th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Youth Camp several young men from our parish will join other young men from around the Archdiocese at Emmaus Days. A team of priests will present reflections on the priesthood and seminarians will be present to talk about their experience of seminary life. If you know of a high-school aged young man who would benefit from Emmaus Days, please call me or call the Vocations Office at 721-9351.

In the peace of Christ,

Fr. Joseph A. Jacobi

To fill a gap in Parish Ministries, a "Welcoming Committee" is being formed to help all Parish Newcomers "feel the welcoming warmth of the St. Eugene Parish Family". The Committee needs representatives from all age groups, single, married, etc. If you would like to participate in this new Ministry by making occasional contacts with Parish Newcomers, please call Duane Hogsett, 752-9070 (English) or Corina Daniel, 843-5374 (Spanish or English).

The flowers for the sanctuary during August are being provided in part through gifts received from Theresa Nagel and Charles Smith in celebration of their marriage (August 7); Jim and Laura Disbrow in celebration of their wedding anniversary (August 25); Juanita Cooper in memory of her husband Chip Cooper and Kerry Kelly in memory of Patricia and Steve Kelly. The parish is most appreciative of these generous gifts which add so much to the beauty of our worship.

Don't Stay Away

Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament

is adoration and reverence of our Lord Jesus Christ,

in the Holy Eucharist,

and affirms the fundamental belief of our Faith

that He is there, body, blood, soul and divinity,

as He promised to be until the end of time.

Can we stay away considering this gift He gives?

Has there ever been a better time

to take refuge in the certainty of His love?

See the Wednesday schedule elsewhere in the bulletin.

Each Tuesday, 1:00 p.m., the ROSARY is recited in the Chapel followed by the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

The Catholic Junior High Football Program is signing up boys for the fall season. All 7th and 8th grade boys attending feeder schools for Bishop McGuinness High School are eligible to participate. ST. EUGENE LADIES BOWLING LEAGUE begins August 24, at Boulevard Lanes, 3501 S. Boulevard, Edmond. This is not a Sanctioned League, so there are no WIBC dues. Seeing Jesus transfigured made Peter want to do something to mark the event.

But the Voice from the cloud said clearly

that the first task of those who recognize Jesus as Lord

is to listen to Jesus and then act!
