Dear Friends in the Christ,
A new family has moved into the Laughlin House, the home our parish maintains to give shelter to families in need. Nina is the mother of two children, recently giving birth to a baby girl and having custody of her 5 year old niece. She is 22 years old and has stage 3 breast cancer. Nina undergoes chemotherapy on a regular basis and needs help babysitting her children. You can call Susan Givens at 752-0059 if you are willing to help baby-sit or can provide preemie diapers or meals. Please pray for Nina and her children as well.
Our parish is hosting a blood drive this Sunday morning in the parish hall at 8:00 a.m. When you give blood, you help save a life, plus at this time you could win one of two 7-day cruises with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
Remember, Fr. Tony Taylor will direct a retreat on the Biblical roots of Stewardship on Friday night, July 23rd, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday morning, July 24th, 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon. All are invited to attend, and if you can only come to part of the retreat (Friday night or Saturday morning), that is fine, too.
The emergency exits for the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten rooms are finally finished. Also, the Youth Room is in the process of being moved to the Meerschaert Room, and soon the present Youth Room space will be converted back into a nursery space to better serve our young children and their families.
Maribel Landa was recently selected to serve on the Hispanic Council. She joins Arthur Valdez (past president), Roberto Zarate, Pablo Ramos, Jesus Elizondo, and Yolanda Garcia on the advisory council, which works with Sr. Carmen, Sr. Adela, and me to oversee the various ministries to our Spanish-speaking parishioners.
Raul Grajeda, one of the custodians who works at our church, was injured earlier this month in a freak accident. He broke his left wrist and fractured one of the vertebrae in his neck, but did not require surgery for either injury. Raul does such a good job cleaning and maintaining our parish plant and does so in such a joyful way. Please keep him in your prayers that he may have a speedy recovery.
On Saturday, July 24th, at 1:30 p.m., a Memorial Mass will be offered for George Lennon.
In the peace of Christ,
Fr. Joseph A. Jacobi
** Parishioners who would like to remember a loved one or celebrate a special day, may make a donation to the Flower Remembrance Fund by contacting the parish office. Donations of $50 or more will be recognized in the church bulletin during the month selected.**

Theme: Encountering the Sermon on the Mount
August 6 to 8
St. Gregory's Abbey
1900 West MacArthur Dr., Shawnee, OK 74804-2499
Telephone # 878-5491
The retreat will rely on the book What Are We to Do: Living the Sermon on the Mount, by David Yount. The author reminds us that the Beatitudes are not just optional guidelines, not simply nice thoughts to admire, but too difficult to practice. Retreat Director: Rev. Charles Buckley, O.S.B. Father Charles is the Director of Formation for St. Gregory's Abbey. He is also Vice President for Academic Affairs and a teacher of mathematics for St. Gregory's University. He has been a monk of St. Gregory's Abbey for 39 years. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening, August 6 in the St. Gregory's University Residence Hall Lobby. Opening session is at 8:00 p.m. The retreat will end by 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
Participants will also be welcome to participate with the monks in their common prayer and as much as possible in the celebration of the Eucharist.
Participants will stay in private rooms in the college residence hall, but will share a bathroom with one other participant. All linens are provided. Meals will be in the monastic dining room. Participants will be able to use the swimming pool and the aerobic center in their free time.
Cost for the retreat is $65 per person, including lodging, meals, and registration fee.
While you are here this year, you should plan to visit the Mabee Gerrer Museum's exhibit of Etruscan art and artifacts from the Vatican Museum and the private collection of Prince Fabrizio Alliota: the only time these will be exhibited together. But you need to make arrangements in advance. Go to www.mgmoa.org or all 1-800-511-1552.

TO ALL OUR CATHOLIC CHURCHES....
WE NEED YOUR HELP:
We received a letter from Sister Sponsa Beltran, Archbishop Beltran's Sister in Liberia, Africa
A fire broke out at the Rehab Center. The entire dormitory and the adjoining storage area burned down due to an electrical fire. Thanks be to God every child and Sister were saved.
They have lost everything that was housed within the buildings including all clothing, beds, linens, food, available cash, wheelchairs, braces and tabernacle which Sister stored in her room so that the children could have perpetual adoration while repairs were made to the chapel, along with anything else you can think of. They have shared with so many thousands that we cannot believe that God will abandon them now. They are currently residing on the floor in the chapel and school building and will live out of these until we can get emergency aid to them. Please pray for them and us that we are able to find help for them and quickly. Right now money for food and daily necessities is most imperative.
All fire donations should be made out to Sr. Sponsa Beltran OSF and mailed to me as soon as possible.
As devastating as this situation is at this present time, to everyone who has followed Sister and the children's story, we can never forget for a moment that they all survived thanks to the Power of Prayer. Let us all give thanks this weekend that they are still with us when conditions tell us that most should never have lived for the damage was total. As soon as donations come in, they will be wired immediately to Sister Sponsa to meet emergency needs. NO DONATION IS TOO LITTLE!!! Please mail donations to Pearl Sullens, 1941 N.W. 17th, Oklahoma City, OK 73106 or call 524-3641, if you have any questions.
