Dear Friends in Christ,
Thanks
to Art Valdez for being the
chairperson overseeing the Parish Picnic, and to the members of our Parish
Council and many different parish organizations who worked the Picnic. It was great fun for all who came.
The
Easter Season ended last Sunday with Pentecost. So the large, baptismal font with the fountain is gone, and the
Easter Candle is no longer in the church.
The sprinkling rite at the beginning of Mass has ended, and the joyful
sound of “Jubilate Deo” and the extended singing of the Alleluia are over. We have entered back into Ordinary Time,
which is not “ordinary” in the sense of “common” but “ordinary” in the Latin
root of the word “ordinal”---“numbered.” However, before we return to the numbered Sundays of Ordinary
Time, we first celebrate two Solemnities which flow naturally from the
conclusion of the Easter Season: Holy
Trinity (today) and the Body and Blood of the Lord, also known as Corpus
Christi (next Sunday). The gift of the
Holy Spirit draws us into the inner life of the Trinity, and our sharing in the
life of the Trinity is nourished by the gift of the Eucharist. Next Sunday we will resurrect the ancient
tradition of a procession with the Blessed Sacrament. See the bulletin
insert for details.
ETS (Educational Testing System) will be renting our
school building beginning Monday through the end of July for two sessions
of testing for teachers wishing to gain certification in different educational
areas. Also, 83 children are
enrolled in our Summer Camp program under the able direction of Angela
Liddiard. Angela has an excellent
staff working with her to provide a fine program.
Our Seniors
group (members 60 years and older) will throw a party Saturday night,
June 17, after the 5 p.m. Mass for those celebrating their 75th
birthday this year and also celebrating those reaching the membership
age of 60 years. Thanks to Al
and Ellen Knebel who do such a good job leading our very active group of
Seniors.
I
will leave this Wednesday morning for my monthly meeting with my Priests’
Support Group. We usually meet from
Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon, but this month Fr. Pruett hosts us
in Guymon and will then lead us on a tour of the Black Mesa area in the very
northwest corner of our State, a place of extraordinary solitude and
beauty. I will be back here late
Friday afternoon.
In the peace
of Christ,
Rev. Joseph A. Jacobi
