EACH TUESDAY, 1:00 p.m. THE ROSARY is recited in the Chapel, followed by the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Next weekend the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated at all the Masses.  Those people who have trouble walking and who want to be anointed should be dropped off at the east entrance to the church where ushers will assist them to the reserved front pews.  Only those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age are proper subjects for this sacrament.  Those who are advanced in age but still in good health are not candidates for this sacrament nor are those who suffer from an illness that is not serious.  Those whose health is seriously impaired by mental illness are able to receive this sacrament. This sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after being anointed and then again falls ill, or if during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious.

Our annual Parish Picnic is from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, June 4th, which is also Pentecost Sunday.   Vacation Bible School will be June 5-9.

Two graduating seniors from Bishop McGuinness High School who are connected to our parish and parish school received special honors.  Diana Kwiatkowski, who is an active member of our youth group and plays the piano at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass, received the Peter George Frassati award for outstanding service.   Michael Treptor, who attended our parish school, was one of two valedictorians.  Congratulations to Diana and Michael!

With the end of school, many families make travel arrangements for the summer.  Because of lower Mass attendance in the months of June through August, our collections also go down as well.  However, the bills stay the same, so I encourage you to continue your support which is vital to our parish operations.  You may even consider using an automatic withdrawal form (find these on the countertop in the gathering area or in the parish office) as a way to support our parish while away during the summer months.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Fr. Stanley Rother’s death at Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala.  Fr. Rother grew up in Okarche and was ordained a priest in 1963.  He served at the Oklahoma mission at Santiago Atitlan for many years, and because of his love for the people there he remained as their pastor during a very dangerous time of political unrest.  On the night of July 28, 1981, three men entered the rectory and shot Fr. Rother.  Prayer cards are still available with a prayer for his canonization.  Also, there are still openings for a pilgrimage being led by Archbishop Beltran to Guatemala to mark Fr. Rother’s 25th anniversary  the last week in July.  Contact Carol Davito, secretary to the Archbishop. 721-5651 ext 116.

In the peace of Christ,                                                      Rev. Joseph A. Jacobi

- We ask for your support of ***UPCOMING FUNDRAISERS DRIVE UP DINNER***, Saturday, June 3rd,  following the 5:00 p.m. Mass, teens will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs in the church back yard.  After Mass you can drive up, place your order and either sit on the lawn and eat with friends or for those of you who are on the run, take it to go!

- FILM CANISTERS / Film them with quarters, IT”S EASY, just pick up a film canister from one of the teens after Mass or from the basket on the glass case in the hall near the office.  Fill the canister with quarters or paper money, tape it shut and place it in the collection basket at Mass or drop it off in the Youth Office or Church Office.  Each canister holds about $7 in quarters.  The money will then go to help pay for the registration to the summer events.

Oklahoma author Robert Mulcahy

A retired Special Agent of the FBI, has written three books “Targets of the FBI”,

“FBI Family” and “Kansas City Charlie”.  Oklahoma played an important role in the early days of the FBI following the murder of McAlester Chief of Police Otto Reed, two Kansas City detectives and an FBI agent who were killed in Kansas City, MO in 1933.  As a result of the gun battle described as the Kansas City massacre, Congress authorized FBI agents to carry firearms.  J. Edgar Hoover, the Bureau’s Director, immediately hired three members of the Oklahoma City pistol team to train his agents in using firearms.  A signed copy by the author can be obtained at 10443 N.
